SafeRide

Mission

To service our community by providing a safe, reliable, and free transportation home for students and community members by promoting smart choices after hours at local establishments in town.

About the Service

SAFERIDE is a free shuttle service available to students and the community, providing free transportation home from local establishments in town. All riders' information are confidential and will not be exchanged. This service is managed by the Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services, and funded by the Student Affairs, with our co-sponsors: Birkam Health Center & Birkam Counseling Center.

The SafeRide bus, contracted with Dial-A-Ride, will shuttle in this orderly fashion:

  1. Gypsy Nickel
  2. Sawmill Saloon
  3. Shooters
  4. The Gate
  5. The Pub

The bus will pick up riders from the establishment and drop them home before resuming to the next establishment. The SafeRide bus will not take riders to other local establishments.

Volunteers

The driver is a contracted through Dial-A-Ride and is not a volunteer position

Volunteers will be responsible for entering establishments and announcing the arrival of SafeRide. Assist driver with taking down addresses, and keeping the bus tidy.

Volunteers will receive 3 hours of community service each time they volunteer for SafeRide!

RSO will receive 2 hours of community service per person volunteering that night.

**ALL Volunteers must have agreement signed before service

If you or your organization would like to volunteer for SafeRide, please log into your OrgSync profile, and join the "Volunteer Center" portal. Agreement & Date form will both need to be read thoroughly and filled out.

There will be a max of 5 volunteers per night for individuals who are not volunteering as an RSO. RSO/s are required to have at least 3 volunteers, and are allowed to have as many volunteers. This is because SafeRide is an eligible program that RSO/s can use in their 5 Star binder.

If you would like to volunteer, but are not a student, please call (231) 591-2685 or stop at the Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services office in Helen Ferris Terrance from Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM, to speak with a member of our staff.

Anyone needing special accommodations to participate, please call the Volunteer Center at (231) 591-2685.
